My journey as an International Student Posted on
Check out what Promode has to say about his last semester and about becoming Brisbane's student Amba…

The winter is here but we still have beautiful sunny days with clear skies down here in ACU Brisbane McCauley campus. One thing I love about Brisbane weather is the sun. Coming from an Island where we have only two distinguishable seasons (the wet season and the dry season ;). It didn’t take long to get used to Brisbane weather for this reason.

Looking back to this first semester I have to say it’s been full-on! We had so many activities happening at our campus and I will walk you through some of the highlights. Personally I feel I had a well-balanced fun semester full of activities with a few pleasant surprises.

ACU International students gathering at our favourite Asian restaurants in the city of Brisbane to greet new students!
Early last semester, on a sunny day, we also joined the Carrabin steel drum band and play drums with them on the riverside!
We also got together during the weekends to have a fun in our student garden! We always have something to take home from the garden!

Last semester was very special for all international students in Brisbane as the event “Brisbane welcomes international students” was held
This was our ACU stall for the Brisbane  international students festival
The event is a yearly festival and many institutions gather on this day to introduce themselves and to welcome newly arrived students.

Thanks to the McAuley United Club, the ACU’s Student Association in Brisbane, we went on a few trips to visit the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. We all had a busy semester. We needed this break too 😉

Enjoying a game of soccer on one of the many beautiful beaches along the sun
We also took the opportunity to visit the meeting place of two States boaders! New South Wales and Queensland.
Isn’t it wonderful how we international students get this awesome opportunity to connect with each other from different parts of the world?

We love group photos with our Banner! 🙂
And finally the McAuley club during our trip to the Gold Coast!

2012 Brisbane Student Ambassadors ceremony

Finally, another highlight for my University and for myself personally, I have also been appointed as the 2012 Brisbane student Ambassadors by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane Graham Quirk. I feel so honoured to have been appointed to represent ACU and Sri lanka in Brisbane.

Last but not least, Thank you for joining with me while I share my exciting student life here in Brisbane! I hope you all have wonderful semesters ahead like the one I just had!
